On December 15, 2025, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) announced that the Member State Committee (MSC) unanimously agreed during its December meeting to designate n-hexane as a Substance of Very High Concern (SVHC), marking the first substance identified for its neurotoxicity at equivalent levels of concern (ELOC). 4,4’-[2,2,2-Trifluoro-1-(trifluoromethyl)ethylene]bisphenol (BPAF) and its salts were designated as SVHC due to their well-established reproductive toxicity without requiring MSC involvement. ECHA plans to include these two substances in the SVHC Candidate List by February 2026. Additionally, the meeting minutes noted that the SVHC proposal for 4,4’-dihydroxydiphenylmethane (bisphenol F, BPF) was withdrawn before the meeting, yet its status in the ECHA SVHC Identification Register remains "Identification ongoing." Consequently, whether this substance will be removed from SVHC consideration depends on official final confirmation.
