On March 26, 2026, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) officially launched a public consultation window for its Socio-Economic Assessment Committee (SEAC) on the proposal to restrict PFAS. The public consultation period will run until May 25, 2026, during which stakeholders can submit evidence-based opinions to assist in the development of SEAC's final assessment.
SEAC will fully consider the relevant information received during the public consultation period and is expected to adopt the final opinion by the end of 2026. At that point, the scientific assessment phase of the proposal by ECHA committees will officially conclude. Based on the final opinions of RAC and SEAC, the committees will propose restriction measures for discussion and voting by the REACH Committee composed of EU member states. Upon approval, the relevant restriction measures will officially take effect, and companies must comply strictly.
