Information Express | Starting from August 18th, the requirements for PFOA in PTFE powder from the European Union will be stricter!

On April 28, 2023, the European Commission published a revised regulation (EU) 2023/866 in its official gazette, amending the restrictions on perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts, and related compounds in Annex I (Part A) of the EU Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Regulation (EU) 2019/1021. The revised regulation came into effect on May 18, 2023 and will be implemented from August 18, 2023.

The revision mainly aims to reduce the content limit of perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and its salts in polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) micropowder to 0.025 mg/kg after August 18, 2023. The current limit of 1 mg/kg only continues to apply to PTFE micropowders that will be transported or processed to reduce the concentration of PFOA and its salts to below 0.025 mg/kg.
