On June 19, 2024, the Canadian Official Gazette published SOR/2024-109, which revised the product mercury regulation SOR/2014-254. The revised regulation will come into effect on June 19, 2025, one year after its publication in the Official Gazette.
The revised regulation mainly revised the requirements for mercury content in batteries, removed homogeneous materials for batteries, and no longer treated button batteries differently from other batteries.
